The comments on the technology available to monitor and reveal fuel thievery are spot on. Stopping one instance of 300 metric tonnes being stolen would fully pay for a fuel management system like FuelTrax on two vessels, at today's IFO prices. I'm afraid, however, that most vessel owners will wait until something like the Faber Marine scenario before considering a preventative. I suppose it is similar to buying an alarm system after your home is burgled. One feels safer afterwards, but the total costs are higher.
