Dear Unni, case is that EU Member States shall ensure MDO's are not put on the market within EU with a sulphur content above 1.5%.
A cargo ship trading on EU, outside SECA is bound by a sulphur limit for MDO of 4.5%.
It should not be in breach of the Directive to use a MDO outside SECA with a sulphur content above 1.5% bunkered in EU.

    Best regards.

    Dear Robert,
You make a very good point. The only concern for a buyer would be if they were looking to use MDO to meet the sulphur limit within the SECA.

Perhaps also worth noting is that the ISO 8217 sulphur limit for DMB and DMC marine diesel oil is 2.0% and for gas oil grades DMX and DMA it is 1.0% and 1.5% sulphur respectively, so the EU regulatory limits differ substantially from the international marine fuel standard.

    Dear Unni,
That is right, and our internal recommendation is also for ships to carry only SECA compliant distillate.

I know little about this topic. Only sulfur is allowed for ships. This should be in limited amounts. The ships are having permission to sulfur distillate form only.
