Have you noticed any more quality issues with low-sulphur fuel oil than 'normal' - i.e. has it been more prone to quality problems than regular high sulphur fuel oil?

I saw a report in the Oceansea (?) enews that according to Lintec the fuel quality situation has indeed worsened.
I would suggest contacting Geof Jones at Lintec for a copoy of his article.

Rudy Kassinger from DNV made the related point recently that a switch to distillate fuel would solve some fuel quality issues, such as cat fines.

I don't know if this posting is appropriate but I am interested to know more about companies who are mixing water with oil to make emulsions for more efficient burning. Anyone know which companies are the forerunners of this technology? We are making the water in oil monitors in Singapore.

    Hello Phil,

Water-fuel emulsification technology tends to focus on reduction of emissions along with improved fuel economy.

A search in the Bunkerworld news archives has brought up articles about Japanese shipping company Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK). It has been running tests on water-emulsion technology jointly developed between NYK subsidiary the Monohakobi Technology Institute, Nihon Rikagaku, Daitoh Marine Engineering and Sunflame.

The Italian firm Mec System has patented a micro-emulsion technology and transferred it to the maritime field alongside Cadel Srl, RINA and Carnival Corporate Shipbuilding.

The President of Sea to Sky Pollution Solutions is due to present a paper on the Case for Emissions Reduction Through Emulsion Technology at the Sustainable Shipping Forum in Los Angeles next month (http://www.bunkerworld.com/events/losangeles2007/) so I'm sure he has more information.
