Due to high fuel prices, Airline's companies all over the world, are scrutinizing every step of their operations, from the tarmac to the sky, and from the nose to the tail of their planes, searching for new ways to cut their soaring fuel bills. As such, what technical/practical steps can be adopted to cut down the fuel consumption in Container ships and also saving money on loading and unloading containers onboards.

One must first establish a baseline on how efficiently a vessel operates on the fuel it uses. A baseline measurement can then be used to compare energy saving technologies and crew behavior changes on a specific vessel and then across a fleet. Spending money on technologies or management changes without a comparison is risky.

It is interesting that you mention the airlines. They have been applying technology and improved management techniques for decades but they have not had the luxury of using cheap fuel. Surely appears like the marine industry is quickly losing that luxury.

    Cheers.
