Ships engaged in international voyages require 60 C flash fuel. With in the US, can vessels that don't travel outside of the US use fuels with less than 60 C legally. Can the supllier supply less than 60 C? Trying to see what regulations the US mandates for 60 for international voyages and intercoastal travel

The classification requirements are very clear that any fuel stored in tanks forming part of the ships hull should not have a flash point of less than 60 degC. American Bureau of Shipping has regulations for inland waters. You may want to check this but common sense dictates that this particular regulation should be the same.

I agree that MDO classification requirements are very clear; however, the only regulations I have been able to find are the signers of SOLAS which relates to vessels for international voyagers and the Federal Regulations, again for international voyagers. The responsibility seems to be on the ship to ask and receive the proper fuel and not on the port facility. There appears to be only guidlines and no regulations stated in federal law for inland vessels mandating 60 C min product. EPA did a report and they came out with the same conclusion. Are we missing a law somewhere? I do appreciate your time and help!
