    DEAR SIR,

WITH REGARD TO RMG 380 BUNKER,
WE HAVE EXPERIENCED WATER EXCESS (ABOUT 0.7 ~ 0.8%) FOR RMG 380CST.
WE WONDER THIS BUNKER COULD NOT BE USED, HOW WE CAN CONSUME THE BUNKER WITHOUT PROBLEM.

    WE HOPE YOUR TECHNICAL ADVICE.

    THANK YOU

    Dear Mr.Lee,

Though this amount of water is beyond the max permitted by ISO 8217:2005 of 0.5%, most of this water can be removed by the onboard purifiers. Please make sure that the purifier heater is maintained at 98 degC in order to improve the water separation, you can also throttle the inlet of the purifier. Make sure the right gravity disc is used if it is the old type of purifier (not Al-Cap type).

Dr. Vis is correct of course, and a correctly configured and set up purifier(s) should remove most of the water. However, prior to reaching the purifier stage, the water should gravitate to the base of the settling tank and can then be drained by ship's staff during routine watchkeeping practises.

Any 'carry over' of water to the service tank, after passing through the settling tank and purifier(s), can similarly be removed via the drains.

The earlier ISO8217:1996 standard allowed for 1% water, so the level of water that you are experiencing (0.7% to 0.8%) is certainly not excessive.
