    Dear Dr.Vir:
    Does the fuel consumption be affected by the speed of ships only? I just find a fuel consumption fuction respective wtih speed, in detail, the consumption varies approximately with the third power of speed. I want to know if there is a function respective with speed and weight.

    It is a rough thumb rule that you have quoted. The actual relationship of fuel consumption to speed depends on many factors. The surface area of a ship that is immersed in water. This will increase as a ship carries more load. Kindly refer to a naval architecture book to get more detailed information.
