ISO 8217 covers both distillate fuels and heavy fuels. There is no reference to chloride content for both fuels. If the chloride came from sodium chloride (salt/sea water contamination) we will look at sodium content. For 1% sea water the sodium will be 108 ppm. Usually when sodium is present, chloride is also present. On rare occasions sodium may come from sodium hydroxide or other alkali used to treat sour crude (high sulphur crude).
