Want to save money on fuel?
"Master" the weather with SPOS

Can weather information indeed save fuel? Not the information you normally see in your paper, on TV or on the web. But a dedicated on board service like SPOS can. It is simple to use, low cost and does more than 'just' save fuel.
That is why hundreds of masters are enthusiastic users of the SPOS weather service!

How does SPOS work?

The SPOS software is installed onboard your ship. Via regular e-mail, accurate wind, wave and hurricane forecasts are sent daily to the ship. The master can display the forecasts on the screen and use the data for optimum route calculations. His own vessel characteristics are taken into account as well.
This service can be low cost since the master is weather routeing himself.

What will SPOS bring you?

  1. avoid bad weather whenever possible to minimise damage and fuel consumption
  2. better planning with more accurate ETA's
  3. save time on ocean crossings by selecting the optimum route
SPOS is used by major shipping lines such as AP Moller/Maersk and P&O Nedlloyd but also attractive for smaller shipping companies. Please read a testimony from a master who uses SPOS:

I dare state that on the passage from Suezcanal to Southampton alone we saved at least 20 tons of fuel, by not rushing ahead in the Mediterranean, but fully confident to keep the revs at 92, with the knowledge that we would have winds from the south from Sao Vicente to Southampton.
